Villa Jembantani was commissioned by a group of Swiss project developers with the aim of designing three identical two-bedroom villas defined by a distinctive architectural language. The project focuses on communal living, sustainability, and a strong connection to the surrounding neighbourhood. Located in Kedungu, a small surf village in Bali known for its relaxed atmosphere, the design balances generous shared spaces for socializing with clearly defined boundaries to ensure privacy.

The architecture is based on a contemporary reinterpretation of
traditional building techniques and local vernacular materials, allowing the villas to blend seamlessly into their natural context. A strong biophilic design approach blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, encouraging users to reconnect with nature and the site. Carefully integrated vegetation, both indoors and outdoors, supports spatial zoning while creating a comfortable microclimate through shading, natural ventilation, and optimized daylight, reducing reliance on air conditioning and artificial lighting.

A central wooden core with a bridging element connects the two bedrooms to the communal level below, establishing a clear circulation strategy that separates private and shared areas. At the same time, this element strengthens the spatial relationship to the outdoors, functioning as an extension of the pool deck and a sheltered gathering space for informal social activities
