Curiosity is not a Sin explores a sustainable alternative to conventional accommodation development in Southeast Asian island contexts, with a focus on Bali, Indonesia. In response to tourism-driven land conversion and environmental pressure, the project proposes compact 25 m² micro-units that support a simpler tropical lifestyle while minimizing ecological impact.

Targeted at young creative professionals, the units are embedded within the rice field landscape, avoiding tourist enclaves and encouraging interaction between residents, locals, and nature. By prioritizing verticality over footprint, each unit is elevated on stilts, allowing agricultural activity to continue beneath. A clear spatial hierarchy organizes the interior, with a central multifunctional “Core” connecting living, bathing, and sleeping spaces, including a private mezzanine.

The design embraces indoor–outdoor living through generous openings that promote cross-ventilation, daylight, and engagement with the surrounding landscape. Construction is based on locally sourced, regenerative materials, with engineered bamboo as the primary structure, complemented by agricultural byproducts and traditional craftsmanship.

Positioned as a scalable model for tropical micro-living, Curiosity is not a Sin challenges conventional notions of comfort and space, proposing a resilient framework for community-driven, low-impact living.
